In the past, we have learned and that EECP effectively treats cardiovascular problems as coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure and so on.
However, over the last few decades, EECP clinicians around the globe noticed the extension of its benefits to other organs! This followed by a number of clinical trials all over, and resulted in overwhelming evidence, which suggests EECP isn’t limited for cardiovascular diseases only.
The very fundamental idea of (counter-pulsation), pumping our blood from lower limbs upward especially during the diastolic phase, actually does more than just “angiogenesis” (new blood vessel formation). Certainly, Diastolic Augmentation is the key to the whole process.
You should know that, Diastolic augmentation basically means to increase diastolic pressure thereby increasing Coronary blood flow. This what happens during EECP. Cuffs inflate around our lower limbs during the diastolic phase and deflate during systolic phase.
This happens over and over again for an hour. Then repeated for 35 hours in spend of 7 weeks.
Recently, some trials have been carried out with lesser sessions like 20 hours, for healthy adults with no co morbidity which concluded in marked improvements in terms of stamina, V02 Max and overall sport performance.
Note : V02 Max – measures how much oxygen you breathe in while doing strenuous exercise. The more O2 inhaled, the better physical fitness you achieve.

1.) EECP Improves Endothelial Dysfunction.
Endothelial – is the inner most layer of blood vessels
Is a syndrome that interrupts the barrier function of the inner layer of blood vessels, which then;
- Impairs vascular tone control for dilation and constriction
- Fails to form new blood vessels
- Fails in preventing the formation of a blood clot within a vessel
- Deranges anti-inflammatory properties
- Inappropriately regulates blood vessel’s cell growth and migration
- Failure to reduce oxidative stress.
Endothelial Dysfunction takes place inside our blood vessels, which happens to connect all our internal organs. You should know that this anatomical structure exists in every part of our body, composing from Large Internal arteries and veins spreading out to capillaries underneath our skin.
Unhealthy habits & sedentary lifestyle contributes to Endothelial Dysfunction, which we can now conveniently say, that is the root cause of most chronic and non-communicable diseases.
EECP has shown clinical evidence, that it improves the dysfunction by restoring the elasticity of blood vessels. This process helps to revive its normal functions.
The catalyst to this process is known as ‘Shear Stress’ and ‘Shear Force’ which usually happens within the blood vessel during intense workout or vigorous physical exercise. But now, this can be achieved with EECP!
In other words, it’s due to the ‘friction’ of the flowing blood on the endothelial surface of the arterial wall.

Not limiting to lower blood supply, constricted blood vessels over the time, cause high blood pressure. Any factor that increases pressure against the artery walls can lead to elevated blood pressure.
You should know that, the buildup of fatty deposits in your arteries (atherosclerosis) can lead to high blood pressure.
Besides atherosclerosis, other conditions that can lead to elevated blood pressure include , Poor sleep quality, Stress, Kidney disease, Adrenal disease & Thyroid disease.The complications of elevated blood pressure is likely to worsen and develop into Hypertension.

Here again, Nitric oxide contributes to the widening of the artery wall which leads to the lowering of both systolic and diastolic pressure. This mechanism helps make arteries soft and elastic .With the increased flow of oxygen-rich blood circulating throughout the body, all our internal organs functionally improve!
3) EECP IMPROVES DIABETES TYPE II
In patients with type II diabetes,EECP treatment improves fasting glucose and glucose tolerance test, as measured by OGTT. The mechanism responsible for this improvement may reside in utilization of NO-mediated glucose uptake pathway to compensate for impaired insulin-mediated glucose uptake manifested in type II Diabetes Mellitus.
In another study, we saw that EECP demonstrates as a potent stimulus to increase skeletal muscle GLUT4 expression, an effect that may partly contribute to improved insulin action and glucose disposal plus enhanced muscle glycogen storage following a complete course of EECP.
It’s conclude that EECP is an effective treatment for diabetes. It helps in lowering blood glucose level of alerting transport of insulin into skeletal muscle and thereby helps in glycemic control and ultimately improves the health-related quality of life of diabetic patients.
In other words, EECP helps to reduce sugar levels in diabetic patients. A vast number of data has shown reduction in HbA1c post EECP therapy.

4) EECP IS GOOD FOR YOUR KIDNEYS !
You should know that, our Kidneys act as a garbage disposal system in our body. All the waste products from the body’s metabolism are filtered through the kidneys and excreted in the urine. They play a significant role in eliminating excessive fluid, controlling & balancing electrolytes, and blood pressure.
Today, we are more dependent on our kidneys than before. This can be due to the intake of medications for our illness and various supplements. All these minerals and supplements has to be excreted through our kidneys.

EECP improves blood flow to the kidneys up to 21%. This increase in blood flow, forces kidneys to filter all waste products in our blood even better. Many patients with advanced heart and kidney disease, have seen improvements to thier the glomerular filtration rate (GFR), a measure to assess kidney working condition, which has improved up to 20%.
Some of the harmful hormones such as Endothelin and Renin, which causes high blood pressure, had reduced by 27% to 37% respectively during a course of EECP. EECP also increases our urine output and helps to eliminate excessive salt and chloride.
These proven effects, encourages EECP to be used as a prevention option by slowing down the progression of kidney failure and also to enhance kidney function when minimal damage is evident.
In Diabetic and hypertensive patients, protein leakage in urine is considered as an early sign of kidney disease, preventative EECP treatment will have significant benefits in this case.
